Getting married at:

getting-married

St Mary the Virgin, Aldermaston
St Mary, Beenham
St Peter, Brimpton
St Matthew, Midgham
St Nicholas, Wasing or
St Peter, Woolhampton.

You can marry in church whatever your beliefs, whether or not you are baptised, and – thanks to a change in the law – you can marry in church even if you live outside the parish.

You may wish to marry at one of our churches because it has significance for you through family or other special connections.  Due to a change in the law an engaged couple can now do just that if either person can show just one of the following seven connections with the relevant parish.

That one of you:

  • was baptised in the parish or
  • was prepared for confirmation in the parish or
  • has at any time lived in the parish for a period of at least 6 months or
  • has at any time regularly gone to normal church services in the parish church for a period of at least 6 months (many couples choose to attend church in the months leading up to their wedding, and find it to be an enriching experience. Please note that the six months attendance is before banns can be read, so attendance will actually need to start at least seven months before the date of the wedding.) or

That one of your parents, at any time after you were born:

  • has lived in the parish for a period of at least 6 months or
  • has regularly gone to normal church services in the parish church for a period of at least 6 months or

That one of your parents or grandparents:

  • was married in the parish

One of us is divorced, so can we still get married in church?

Yes, as the Church of England rules which used to prohibit marriage after a divorce have now changed. However, decisions are made on an individual basis – the Rector will be happy to meet with you to discuss your situation. This needs to be done before a date can be set.  Find out more here.

Will we need to do any preparation before getting married in church?

Yes, you will need to attend a marriage preparation day. We will give you more details about this when you make your booking, but it is a relaxed and informal day with other couples to explore the meaning of marriage.

If we have a civil ceremony can we still have a service of blessing?

Yes, many couples come to church after their civil ceremony to have their marriage blessed. Speak to the Wedding Coordinator (details below) to find out more.

What should we do next?

If you want to find out more please contact the Rector,  who will give you all the information you need.

Planning your Visit

A Warm Hello

The following information is specifically for those planning a visit, so that you know, beforehand, what to expect on a Sunday morning.

Where and When

There are services across the benefice in our six beautiful churches and details can be found on the 'Our Services' page.   Our worship is a mixture of contemporary and traditional.  Refreshments are served after all the services and we invite you to stay for a cuppa - it is a great way to meet people, or simply take time to find your bearings.

BOOK TICKET HERE – Sun 8 AM (IN-PERSON) Holy Communion Worship Service – Christ Methodist Church, Sun 3 Jan 2021 8:00 AM - 9:00 AM

What about my children?

Children are welcome at all of our services, particularly the  more contemporary services.  We really value worshipping God all together as a family.
